Sensitisation of youth on GBV, the Women’s Act 2010, the Domestic Violence Act 2013 and the Sexual Offences Act 2013 by Network against GBV with support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs Finland through RATAS

   

The overall goal of the Network against Gender Based Violence(NGBV)’s approved and funded three-year Project 2013 - 2015 by the Finnish Government through RATAS is the eradication of Gender Based Violence and empowerment of women and girls to actively participate in their own socio-economic and political development and advancement. One of the immediate objectives of the project is to raise awareness and reduce Gender Based Violence in homes and schools in The Gambia;  It is against this backdrop that the NGBV  sensitised representative of  various youth groups including representatives of the National youth council ACTIVISTA,Voice of the young. The sensitisation was aimed at creating awareness and building the capacity of youth on the rights of women particularly on the legal framework that protects women and girls from gender based Violence in order to stop all forms of violence against women and girls with an emphasis on social change and the enforcement of the Women’s Act 2010, the Sexual Offences 2013 and Domestic Violence Act 2013. The opening ceremony was graced by the Office of the Vice President  and National Youth councel . Major outcome of the workshop was the  alliance with youth organizations in the fight against gender based violence.
